Frisco Farms
We are a second generation farm family. I was raised on a dairy farm in central Alberta, while my husband, Siemen, was raised on a hog farm in Friesland, the Netherlands. In 2001 he immigrated with his parents and siblings to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta and together they began a hog farm. We met after that time and were married in 2005.

Our dream has always been to raise children on a farm, to be able to give them many of the farm life experiences that we grew up with. The way this dream is being played out continues to change, as we experience new highs and lows and rise up to each new challenge along the way. Today we are raising sheep and lamb, with our three girls pitching in and learning along with us.
Our farm looks a lot different than it did in the early start up years. Dips in markets and sky high feed prices have shaped the direction of our farm business as it continues to adapt. The original farm was dedicated solely to raising pigs in a large confined feeding operation from birth to market. We expanded to include beef cattle for a couple of years. We also went from owning sows to renting out our barns in a contract finished style of hog farming.

The decision to raise sheep and lamb in 2018 was followed by the move out of hogs, and back into a more pasture based livestock program. In our early days of raising sheep, we realized we were shepherds that had never tasted a lamb chop! We fixed this very quickly when our first lambs were ready for market. The kids were a bit skeptical at that time, but now 5 years down the road their eyes light up at the mention of lamb “anything” for dinner. The favorite being lamb sausages.
Livestock have always been a part of our farm story. Being a part of this miracle of life is something we value, the simple blessings and profound gratitude experienced as we witness newborn animals and welcome them to our farm. I’m sure our farm will continue to change and grow as time goes on. One thing we hope won’t change is the faith that is passed on by learning to trust God’s leading through the trials.
